Winter Months Boost

Usually around this time of year is when I start to feel a little run down, maybe even end up developing a sore throat or a cold. To help combat this, I usually start to reassess a few things. Am I getting enough sleep? Am I drinking enough water? Am I eating well and exercising? These are really the cornerstones of good health, and most times, when you get sick it’s because you’re lacking in one of these areas.

Another thing I’ll do to help me through the winter months is regularly make honey, lemon and ginger tea. Now, while this isn’t a treatment for anything, I personally find it gives me a little boost, helps to clear my sinuses and soothes the dry throat I tend to get from the cold air, and is a good substitute for that mid afternoon coffee.

Ingredients

  • 2.5 cm piece of ginger
  • 2.5cm piece of turmeric
  • Juice of 5-6 lemons
  • ½ tsp. Cayenne Pepper
  • Honey.

Method

  • Peel and thinly slice the ginger and turmeric.
  • Place in a saucepan with 2L cold water then bring to the boil.
  • Add the lemon juice and return to the boil.
  • Strain the mix to remove the ginger and turmeric pieces and stir through the cayenne pepper.
  • To serve, dissolve a tbsp of honey in a hot mug of the ginger and lemon mix.

Give it a try and let us know if you like it.
